Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, life wasn't always easy for Ricardo. At a young age he started to train Ju Jitsu to keep him occupied and away from gang violence. He was soon known for his aggressive fight style and gruelling submissions so he was nicknamed El Punição translating to The Punishment.
