Clark grew up as an Army brat. Due to his father's military service he grew up in various cities across the United States as well as Bolivia, Italy, Iceland and Germany. Despite moving consistently one thing always remained the same - wherever "the turtle" wound up he dominated athletically. He was a stand out collegiate wrestler and was even considering trying out for the US Olympic team. After moving back to his home state of Indiana he decided to try his hand in MMA.
