Alex was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Due to his size he was often bullied throughout his childhood, although was always known for his ability to take a hit. At the age of 12 he was stabbed and that's when his parents decided to emigrate to USA. That's where Giorgio met wrestling for the first time. After high school Alvarez attended Colby Community College where he was a 2x JUCO national champion (137 lbs) in 2012 and 2013. He is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Eddie Bravo.
