Tucker was raised in the streets of Durban. He never knew his parents, and lived in a shelter for boys. He dropped out of school and started boxing at age 10. He was sent to juvenile prison for 4 years for killing a drug smuggler. After his release, he joined the AMPLA Gym in Durban and became the club champion in MMA for 3 years in a row.
