Up to his late teens Scott was torn between fighting and his musical career - he was a highly touted bassist in the Palm Desert stoner rock scene. He was kicked out of his band after missing a rehearsal due to sickness from a weight cut and then took up fighting full time. He was whooped by a muay thai based opponent in his first amateur fight and so he moved to Thailand to learn the art, where he met his manager, Mr. Ruengruong.
