Terell was born in Nassau, Bahamas but moved to the United States as a child growing up in Atlanta Georgia. Terell started boxing at a young age and his raw athleticism made him one of boxing's hottest amateur prospects, unfortunately he became involved with gangs and started selling drugs. He served prison at a reduced sentence due to being a minor at the time and after he was released he decided to return to combat sports and chose MMA and quickly started tearing through his competition.
